Exercise your heart . Core muscles are pivotal so as to give support for the lower back and avoid injury. Low-impact cardiovascular exercise–such as exercise walking–increases blood flow to the spine, which provides healing nutrients and hydration to the structures on your back.
If exercise sounds like it can’t be done in a regular basis, our Palmdale Physical Therapist suggest you make small goals to gradually get yourself moving, such as going up and down your stairs 3 times in a row, walking with a friend, or sitting on an exercise ball for 20 minutes.
Make your posture better. Bad posture places pressure on your back and can cause degenerated discs to become painful. Our Palmdale Physical Therapist advise that you support the natural curve in your spine by using an ergonomic chair and set a timer in your phone to remind yourself to look at your posture as your work through the day.
Additionally, make certain that you get up and walk around at least once an hour if you sit the majority of the day. If you can, use a standup desk for at least part of the day.
Lift heavy objects the ideal way. Even if you’re young and strong, you can still injure your back if you lift a heavy object.

Boost your Overall Physical Health
The backbone reflects the overall health of the entire body. Anything you can do to improve your overall physical fitness and general health will ultimately benefit your lumbar spine as well–such as drinking a great deal of water, minimizing/not drinking excessive alcohol, eating an anti-inflammatory diet (or less inflammatory), and quitting smoking/avoiding any nicotine intake.
